Darryl is one of the most talented players in baseball and he showed it in 1988. He has enormous power, marvelous speed and a powerful arm in right. Darryl started the season in splendid style as he smashed two HRs on Opening Day, and early May became the Mets career HR leader. He ended the season as the N.L. HR king, and hit 39 homers for the second year in a row.
Darryl also had a terric seaon in 1987 as he finished third in the N.L. in Hrs and slugging, and seventh in runs and RBIs. He was the first player drafted in 1980: two years later he was the Texas League MVP and home run champion with 34. In 1983 Darryl was voted the N.L. Rookie of the year.
Darryl set Mets one season RBI record in 1990 (5th in NL) and became 1st met in history to have 3 100-RBI seasons...2nd in NL in HR in 1990...Led NL in HR and Slugging (.545) in 1988.
